Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy

This workshop will provide a broad overview of theoretical orientations that can be implemented by clinicians conducting couples psychotherapy. This training will review specific interventions that are useful in conducting clinical work within the relationship dyad.

  • This training will provide a broad overview of Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples (Johnson, 2014), while also describing specific interviews consistent with the treatment modality.
  • During the course of this review, we will identify the specific interventions associated with this treatment approach, which include ARE conversations, maladaptive emotions and negative interaction patterns (Johnson, 1996). Exploration of basic attachment theory and it's association with love, marriage, and relationships (Bowlby, 1982).
  • This training will also attend to some of the practical considerations which will include chart management, billing and insurance considerations, and ethical/practical concerns associated with conducting therapy with couples evidencing various factors which could include domestic violence, substance abuse, infidelity, pornography use and child/coparenting strategies.


**PCS provides light refreshments at all trainings. Lunch is not provided. If the training is during lunch time, please come prepared with a packed lunch as there will be a brief, working lunch break.
