Join Madie Tortomasi, Director of Community Education with Families Against Narcotics (FAN), from Clinton Township, Michigan as we delve into the multifaceted issue of substance use stigma, aiming to dismantle its pervasive influence on individuals and society. We begin by dissecting the concept of stigma and discussing its detrimental effects on those affected. Delving deeper, we explore the root causes of substance use stigma, ranging from historical and cultural factors to media portrayals and policy implications. However, the heart of our discussion lies in proactive strategies to challenge and dismantle this stigma. By fostering supportive communities and empowering individuals to engage in stigma reduction efforts, we strive to create a more inclusive and understanding society where individuals facing substance use disorders are met with empathy and support rather than judgment and discrimination.
