This training explores Drs. John and Julie Gottman's research on couples’ conflict by focusing on the two key pieces of conflict styles and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The training will review the primary conflict styles- Validating, Volatile, and Avoidant-- and how they impact relationship dynamics. The training will discuss the Four Horsemen that lead to destructive communication patterns and predict relationship distress. "Antidotes" and practical interventions will be discussed to provide useful tools in the therapeutic space to foster more constructive conflict resolution and emotional connection.

 

Trainer Bio

Courtney Krivak-Kramer is a certified Family Based Therapist. She is pursuing dual licensure as a Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist in Pennsylvania, while working towards her Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy. Previous career experience includes multiple levels of care and clients with different treatment needs such as Adolescent Partial Hospitalization, Applied Behavioral Analysis Intervention, Crisis Intervention, Outpatient Mental Health (individuals, couples and family work) and Family Based Mental Health Treatment. Currently, Courtney's roles at Pennsylvania Counseling Services include working as the Clinical Consultant for the Family Based Mental Health Program in Chambersburg and as an Outpatient Therapist specializing in family and couples work using a systemic lens. Through her experiences, Courtney has developed a passion for training and supporting clinicians working within systems to gain confidence in working with multiple individuals in the therapy room.
