This training is part of a four-part series on Addressing Dysfunctional Family Patterns through the Four Pillars of Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy.
Eco Systemic Structural Family Therapy believes all maladaptive family patterns of interaction can be classified in four dysfunctional family types: Embattled, Enmeshed, Authoritarian, and Under-Organized. This training series will look at how therapists can help shift those family pattern through practical use of the Four Pillars of ESFT. This particular training in the series will explore creating some healthy distance is enmeshed or over-involved family systems. Enmeshed families are classified by high levels of emotional reactivity and high levels of involvement where the family members struggle to individuate. Therapists will learn to identify enmeshment in families by looking for patterns of child's true needs being missed due to emphasis on caregivers own emotional experience and reactivity. The training will identify specific goals in each pillar (emotion regulation, parent child relationship, executive functioning, and co-caregiver relationships) and practical interventions the therapist can use to help facilitate change in these four areas to move the family closer to a pattern of interacting that better meets the child’s needs.
