Calm Down!: Real Coping Skills We Can Teach & Use

Trainer

Emily Hornung-Thimes, LSW

Description

This Lunch & Learn will provide a summary of and classifications for coping strategies and skills through the lens of behavioral health services. Clinicians encounter a spectrum of skill levels in client knowledge and application of coping strategies. Coping strategies will be defined and examples provided across contexts, including imbedded skills used daily for personal resilience. Different methods for assessing client coping strategies will be provided, including the Ways of Coping questionnaire, that will provide additional support for clinicians in assessing a client’s current repertoire of coping skills and strengths and areas for improvement. Teaching interventions for developing fluency in new coping strategies will also be reviewed.
