Dr. Kimberly Ernest, PH.D., LPC (Read Bio)
This 1-hour training introduces therapists to developmentally appropriate ways to use mindfulness techniques with children and adolescents in clinical practice. The training will focus on helping young clients build awareness of thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and impulses in a way that feels accessible, engaging, and non-threatening.
Participants will explore how mindfulness can support emotional regulation, anxiety reduction, distress tolerance, attention, and improved self-awareness. The training will emphasize practical, child-friendly strategies such as breathing exercises, grounding skills, sensory awareness, mindful movement, guided imagery, and brief in-session practices that can be adapted for different ages, developmental levels, and clinical presentations.
Special attention will be given to making mindfulness feel concrete and usable for children and teens, rather than overly abstract or “adult-focused.” Therapists will leave with practical tools they can immediately incorporate into sessions with children, adolescents, and families.
