Certified Recovery Specialists (CRSs) play a vital role in supporting individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders by offering recovery support grounded in lived experience. This continuing education course examines the unique role of the CRS within integrated treatment settings, highlighting how peer support complements clinical services to improve engagement, foster hope, and strengthen long-term recovery outcomes. Participants will explore the distinctions between the roles of therapists and CRSs, identify appropriate referral opportunities, examine professional boundaries and ethical collaboration, and gain practical strategies for incorporating Certified Recovery Specialists into interdisciplinary treatment teams. Through discussion and real-world examples, clinicians will enhance their understanding of how clinical expertise and recovery expertise work together to provide comprehensive, person-centered care.
