From Vulnerability to Resource: Integrating Signature Themes in Therapy

Trainer

Miranda Stickler, LMFT AS

Description

Description:

Countertransference is often talked about in the mental health field as something the therapist must manage and keep out of the therapeutic space at all cost. But, what if we could reframe the emotional experience of the therapist as data and when used responsibly, a valuable clinical intervention tool? This training will look at the value of therapist's self-awareness and the ability to use that reflection on purpose in the therapy relationship. Clinicians will learn about the concept of signature themes and parallel process and will gain insight into their own themes and vulnerabilities as a practitioner. The training will discuss regulation techniques for the therapist when their signature theme becomes activated. Questions designed to guide the therapist in evaluating if their emotional experience is data about the clinician, the client, or both. Strategies for intentionally using this information in supervision and in therapy sessions will be taught and demonstrated.
