The Healing Power of Play: An Introduction to Play Therapy with Children and Families

The purpose of the current training is to increase participants understanding of the role of play in healthy human development and to utilize play therapy techniques to support change and growth for individual children and adults.  Additionally, play techniques that foster effective and adaptive caregiver-child interactions will be presented.  Participants will engage in discussion, in order to apply the presented play theory and play techniques to specific cases scenarios on their current caseloads.  Participants will role play techniques presented, for immediate feedback on skill development. 


Special note:  Because the training will be experiential in nature ALL participants must come to the training with 10 play items (small toys like a happy meal toy, a crayon, a marble, a block, etc.) to share with the group for role playing activities.  


  • PCS provides light refreshments at all trainings. Lunch is not provided. Please come prepared with a packed lunch as there will be time for a brief working lunch.
  • By attending a PCS training, you are giving PCS permission to videotape you and any discussion you participate in for video training purposes.

  • People who attend PCS trainings and seminars in their entirety may receive CE credits for psychologists/LPC/ LSW/LCSW/ LMFT or general training credits, including CAC/DDAP. For other licenses, please consult with your respective licensing board.
    • Following each seminar, participants who have attended the seminar in its entirety will receive a PCS Training Feedback form via email.
